Collection: Damascus Rings

How the pattern is made

Damascus is not a finish. Two steels with different alloy content are forge-welded into a single billet, then heated, folded and drawn out again — and every fold doubles the layer count, so a few dozen folds put hundreds of layers into a piece of metal the size of a thumb.

The pattern only appears at the end. An acid etch bites the two steels at slightly different rates: one darkens, one stays bright, and the layers surface as flowing bands. Because they run all the way through the billet rather than sitting on top of it, you could sand the ring back and the pattern would still be there.

How the smith twists and cuts the billet decides the figure, so no two rings carry the same one.

Living with Damascus

It is steel, so treat it like good steel. Everyday wear and hand washing are fine; dry it properly afterwards and keep it out of long soaks, pools and salt water. If the contrast ever looks tired after years of wear, a jeweller can re-etch the surface and bring the pattern back. All bands are 8 mm, comfort fit, sizes 7 to 13, covered by our Lifetime Warranty against manufacturing defects.
